Guys, the season premier of Saturday Night Live last week almost restored my faith in the show! Andy Samberg’s digital short, a romantic rap about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad…freaking hilarious. If you followed the events of the Iranian president’s appearance at Columbia University last week, and you have the least bit of a sense of humor, you might just pee your pants. I love it more every time I see it. With lines like “butter pecan thighs”, and an incredibly catchy pop chorus sung by Adam Levine from Maroon 5, as well as a choir of children singing it at the end; how could it NOT be funny? (This isn’t the first time Samberg created an awesomely funny digital short…Lazy Sunday anyone?) This was the best episode since Jude Law was on three years ago (that was outrageous, and included Ashlee Simpson’s infamous lip-synching debacle). NBA star LeBron James was the host, and they actually built a couple of hilarious sketches around him (the PSA announcement sketch and the guidance counselor sketch). Musical guest was Kanye West, so how can you go wrong with that? I hope I’m not sounding too psychoanalytical saying this, but Kanye seems like a loney little boy to me. Anyone feel me on that? They also wrote a great sketch for him; you can check it out here.
Anyway, all that to say: SNL might actually have a chance to save itself; the talent is there…we just need a little more “hit” and a lot less “miss.”
